SURFILMUSIC is a new documentary tracing the evolution of Jack Johnson, from surfer to filmmaker and eventually world-renowned musician.
The film explores how his early years making surf films with close friends laid the foundation for a much broader creative life, capturing moments both in and out of the water that would later inspire his songwriting.
Blending rare footage from those formative surf films with Johnson’s personal and family archives, alongside present-day reflections, the documentary weaves together a story of lived experiences, friendships, and exploration that shaped the sound and stories behind his music.
Directed by Emmett Malloy, and featuring Jack Johnson, Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, Gerry Lopez, Chris Malloy, G. Love, Ben Harper, John John Florence, Kim Johnson, and many more, with a beautiful original soundtrack by Jack Johnson and Hermanos Gutiérrez.
